Quartz sandstone (displaying cross bedding)
Lithgenous sedimentary rock.
This sample of quartz sandstone displays crossbedding. Original rock was probably a coastal dune sand deposit of Early Cambrian age. Massive outcrops similar to rocks displaying similar crossbedding are exposed in the Wood Canyon Formation (Lower Cambrian) in Funeral Range of Death Valley area. This sample is a river gravel cobble from near Shoshone, California |
